David, a devout Christian, is especially interested in helping the city’s poorest citizens and those currently incarcerated for minor offenses, believing that reaching this population can have the greatest impact upon a community. “Inmates will eventually get out but have nothing to help them stay out—especially because we’re in a recession. This is a preventive measure.”
The goal of Challenge 300 is simple, he says. “When they’ve completed the 180 days, I want participants to have money in the bank, better credit, and a real budget. Most of all, I want them to be debt-proof so they’ll never slip back into poverty again.”
